Hunter Biden, 54, was found guilty by the jury on all three felony counts resulting from his purchase of a firearm in 2018 while suffering from a drug addiction.
The decision is made only one day before the 81-year-old President is scheduled to speak about gun violence in Washington and during his first presidential attempt.
After the trial concluded in Biden’s hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, the president gave a statement through the White House expressing his “love and support” for his son.
The Democrat Biden declared, “Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today.” “I am the President, but I am also a Dad,” Biden stated.
“So many families who have had loved ones battle addiction understand the feeling of pride seeing someone you love come out the other side and be so strong and resilient in recovery,” said the president.
“I will accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal,” Biden stated.
Hunter Biden may spend up to 25 years behind bars, though this is unlikely given that he is a first-time offender.
