Changing Biden and abrasive Trump spar in the presidential debate

In the first-ever debate between a sitting president and a past president, they both called the other the worst president in history.

A pause During the heated first debate of a very close presidential contest on Thursday, Joe Biden had to fight off a strong attack from Donald Trump.

A blustery Trump unleashed a tirade at his successor, branding him an economic and global failure. Biden appeared to respond, but his tone was tentative, speaking quickly in a quiet, halting voice and faltering a few times.

In what was the first-ever presidential debate, the two men accused one another of being the worst presidents in history. As they battled over their golf strokes, Trump and Biden—who were both the oldest presidents when they were first elected—even called each other infantile.

At CNN‘s Atlanta headquarters, Biden, 81, and Trump, 78, did not exchange handshakes en route to their podiums. They agreed upon the terms as they launched their campaigns in a fiercely divided nation, with no live audience present and their mics silenced while each spoke.

Claiming to be suffering from a cold, Biden struck back at Trump with well-practiced words, trying to remind the millions of television watchers that the next president will be the first person with a criminal record.

“Consider all of your available civil penalties. “How many billions of dollars do you owe in civil penalties for having sex with a porn star on the night that your wife was pregnant, and for molesting a woman in public?” asked Biden.

Biden remarked, “You have the morality of an alley cat.”

Speaking forcefully, Trump—a seasoned speaker from live events and reality TV—ran through a lengthy litany of criticisms on Biden’s past.

“I’m friends with a lot of people, and I think it’s unfortunate what’s happened to our country over the past four years,” added Trump. They find it hard to comprehend the fate of the United States of America. We’re not respected anymore.”

At one point, Trump attempted to capitalize on Biden’s delivery by stating, “I’m not sure what he said at the end of that sentence.” He may not have known what he said, in my opinion.

Former Biden communications director Kate Bedingfield said the president gave “a really disappointing debate performance.”

“I don’t think there is any other way to slice it,” she stated to CNN.
