Should Donald Trump win the US election, he promises to “never ban TikTok.”
According to a New York Post story, former US President and Republican contender Donald Trump declared that, should he win the country’s election in November, he would never outlaw the Chinese short-video app.
Notably, Trump gained notoriety for harshly criticizing TikTok. His new comments about the app appeared to be a drastic reversal of his earlier views.
Additionally, it was Trump who, in 2020, launched the US campaign against TikTok.
Trump tried to prohibit the TikTok app on the grounds that it was a national security risk because of the personal information it collected from its 100 million American users. However, US courts invalidated that proposal.
Trump then joined TikTok at the beginning of this month as part of a contentious campaign against US President Joe Biden, who already has a profile on the app.
Furthermore, the Biden administration established a new rule mandating that ByteDance, the Chinese company that owns TikTok, sell the app or risk having it banned in the US.
Furthermore, Trump referred to Biden as the “worst president in history” before promising that TikTok will never be banned.
