Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, said on Thursday that he spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the upcoming peace conference in Switzerland concerning the situation between Russia and Ukraine. He hoped that India would participate in the meeting at the “highest level.”

In addition to holding extensive discussions with his Indian counterparts last month, Swiss State Secretary of Foreign Affairs Alexandre Fasel invited the Indian prime minister to attend the conference that aims to set the path for a fair and sustainable peace in Ukraine.

Zelenskyy also invited Premier Modi to visit Ukraine at a time that would be suitable for him.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi won the legislative elections on Wednesday for the third time in a row, and Zelenskyy thanked him.

India and Ukraine have a rich historical past and similar values. In a post on X on Wednesday, he wrote, “May our partnership flourish and bring progress and mutual understanding for our nations.”

“It is critical that we all work together to ensure a just peace for all nations,” he declared, asserting that everyone in the world understands the significance and weight of India’s position in international affairs. We also hope that India will attend the Peace Summit in this sense. A global peace conference pertaining to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is scheduled for June 15–16 at Burgenstock Resort in Switzerland. More than 160 nations have received invitations from Switzerland to the summit.

In addition to holding extensive discussions with his Indian counterparts last month, Swiss State Secretary of Foreign Affairs Alexandre Fasel invited the Indian prime minister to attend the summit, which is intended to map out a path for a fair and sustainable peace.

In addition, Alexandre Fasel mentioned India’s deep ties to both Russia and Ukraine, expressing the hope that New Delhi would assist in assisting the summit in creating a plan for restoring peace to Ukraine.

A spokesman for the External Affairs Ministry in New Delhi, Randhir Jaiswal, responded, “We have received an invitation from the Swiss side,” when asked if India will attend the summit. We have not yet chosen whether or not to participate. India has been advocating for diplomatic and conversational means of resolving the Ukraine crisis.

PM Modi prodded Russian President Vladimir Putin to put a stop to the situation in Ukraine during a bilateral meeting in September 2022 in the Uzbek city of Samarkand. He added, “Today’s era is not of war.”
