The 12 jurors heard the closing arguments and then pondered for around an hour. According to a court spokesman, they will pick back up on Tuesday at 9 am ET (1300 GMT).

Government prosecutor Derek Hines said, “We ask you to find the law applies equally to this defendant as it would to anyone else.”

“He broke the law when he decided to purchase a pistol while lying. We request that you return the only finding that the evidence supports: guilty.”

The president’s 54-year-old son has entered a not-guilty plea to felonies that include lying about his addiction on a government-required application for a Colt Cobra revolver and unlawfully carrying the firearm for 11 days.

The government’s case, according to defense lawyer Abbe Lowell, is like a magic trick since it centers on drug use that occurred months or years before to the gun purchase. “They blurred all those years before he walked into StarQuest Shooters and all those years after,” Lowell stated to the jury.

Jurors were ordered to be unbiased by US District Judge Maryellen Noreika. She told them, “You have to make your decision based on the evidence.”
