The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Tuesday that two Indian nationals who had enlisted in the Russian Army have died in the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

According to the Indian Foreign Ministry, it has “strongly taken up the matter” with the Russian Ambassador in New Delhi and the Russian authorities in Moscow, respectively, along with the Indian Embassy in Moscow.

According to the MEA, the Indian Embassy in Moscow has “pressed” the Russian government, particularly the Ministry of Defense, to expedite the return of mortal remains.

The MEA further stated that it has made demands of the Russian authorities in Moscow and the Russian ambassador in New Delhi about the prompt release and repatriation of all Indian nationals serving in the Russian Army.

According to the MEA, India has also asked that the Russian Army “verifiedly stop any further recruitment” of Indian citizens.

According to the MEA statement, “Such activities would not be in consonance with our partnership.”

Indian nationals should exercise caution.

The MEA stated, “We also advise Indian nationals to proceed with caution when looking for work opportunities in Russia.”
